fannishtalk: daunt: daunt: AND THEN Wow, don’t get on tumblr for a day and look at the epic stuff you miss! So ok, there’s a bunch of really interesting things happening here and I’m going to over-analyze it because I’m a fan and that’s the way we roll, baby: 1)  The most important is that Jeff Davis voluntarily started this thread by saying his friend (Berlanti, the Green Arrow showrunner) had asked him when Sterek is happening.   That’s just… a really interesting choice a) to talk about Sterek without prompting on his twitter, b) to have it be a when rather than if question by his friend, and c) to act all humorously put upon that his friend is also asking about Sterek just like fans. 2)  Then his friend gets back to him basically saying it would be “great TV”/legendary and humorously laughing about writing fan fic.  And that’s funny because, again, it’s obviously aimed at fans a bit, but in a gently humorous way.  And also (conspiracy theory) I kind of wonder if Davis and Berlanti agreed to have some sort of exchange like this to get both their fandoms interested in the other’s show. 3)  I’m just laughing hysterically at Davis’ Doliver tweet, because it almost reads like bad fan fic with the flaming stubble and he clearly gets the name mishmash for ships.  Again, it’s just funny.  I think he’s also deflecting a little there, though, so maybe they didn’t plan the exchange? 4)  And then it gets very meta-funny in the sense that the Zap2it lady and Berlanti actually have a mini-discussion about slow build vs happens quick then lots of relationship drama/ship wars - which is kind of similar to how fandom discusses things all the time.  And then Davis gives his ship warning and MacKenzie is like, please, Vampire Diaries (and really when it comes to canon ship wars, I think I’ll give her that one) - but effectively comparing a possible sterek love triangle to a canon het love triangle as if it’s all the same - which just is so awesome. End result - this whole exchange is pretty amazing on so many levels.  For one thing it’s 3 industry people talking about Sterek, which is just…  I don’t even know how to explain my flailing.  For another, the whole fact of social media means that fans can watch this kind of exchange and see what various industry people are thinking - and that a whole new group of people are now wondering who/what Sterek is who don’t follow Davis but do these other two people. And I just…  I’ve never been in a fandom or followed a ship that consistently gets so much attention despite not being canon!  It amazed me and gives me hope.  The only thing that makes me laugh in a sadder sort of way is that despite Davis starting the discussion, it was the other people who were most enthusiastic.  Still, that has to tell him something…
